Arshdeep Singh shot to the top of the trending topics on social media after missing a clear shot in the Super 4 match of the Asia Cup 2022 at a pivotal moment in the game. Asif Ali took advantage of the chance and assisted India in defeating Pakistan by five wickets. But after dropping the ball, the cricketer has been trending on Twitter. He has been allegedly called ‘Khalistani’.
Arshdeep took the brunt of the criticism from the angry Indian supporters when many of them put the responsibility for the defeat at his feet and even threatened to harm him and his family on social media.
Though he played well and one match did not reflect his ability, many prominent personalities, like former cricketer Harbhajan Singh and Ranjit Bawa, took to their social media and shared the tweet.
Harbhajan wrote, “Stop criticising young Arshdeep Singh No one drop the catch purposely..we are proud of our boys .. Pakistan played better.. shame on such people who r putting our own guys down by saying cheap things on this platform bout arsh and team.. Arsh is GOLD”
Whereas, Ranjit penned a heartfelt note in support of the Indian Bowler. He wrote, "Don’t abuse him ,He played very well . Haar jeet bani hai so chalda rehnda Stay strong sardar saab Arshdeep singh Lots of love nd positivity from Panjab”
Moreover, when digging deeper, it has been reported that most of these accounts, targeting Arshdeep, are from Pakistan and are running Khalistan propaganda against India. Also, former Indian cricketer, Irfan Pathan said, “Arshdeep is a strong character. Stay that way boy.”
