National Sports Day celebrated with enthusiasm in Kathua

Series of  sports events were on Monday organised across district Kathua to mark the National Sports Day celebrated on the Birth Anniversary of Hockey Legend Major Dhyan Chand.A sports event was organised by District Youth Services and Sports Department Kathua at Sports Stadium Hiranagar which was inaugurated by BDC Chairperson Hiranagar Ram Lal Kalia.Girls open Hockey match was played between Kathua eleven  and  Hiranagar Eleven  which was won by the former by 2-1.

Competitions in Hockey, Cricket, Football, Gymnastics and bouts of Judo and boxing were organised by JK Sports Council  in Sports Stadium Kathua. The event witnessed participation of 400 boys and girls.

Similarly, a Kho-Kho (M&W) Intramural Match was organized by the Department of Physical Education and Sports, Government Degree College Kathua to mark the National Sports Day. The Intramural was inaugurated by the College Principal, Prof. Sumanesh Singh Jasrotia.

The Chief Guest, in his address to the sports persons, paid tribute to the Hockey Legend Major Dhyan Chand by recalling his contribution towards the country and to Indian Sports. He advised the students to adopt Fitness protocols by maintaining a healthy Body Mass Index (BMI) and to follow the formula of sound mind in the sound body.

The Kho-Kho (W) Intramural match was between NCC Girls and Physical Education Girls team. The NCC Girls won the match by 5 points.The second match held between the Department of English and the Department of Physical Education was won by the Department of Physical Education by two points.

On the occasion, the Principal gave away Medals and Trophies to elite players, who represented the college at National, All India Inter University and State Level Competitions.At Government Degree College, Mahanpur, Department of Physical Education organised the maiden  Triangular Inter College Table Tennis Tournament (Men) on the College Campus  to mark the National Sports Day.

Teams from GDC Billawar and GDC Basohli participated in the Triangular tournament.The whole programme was organised under the patronage of Principal of the College, Dr. Rakesh Kumar Koul.A total 6 students, 2 from each college, participated in the competition in which Abhiya Paul, GDC Basohli secured the First position and Parul Singh of GDC Mahanpur was adjudged as First Runner-up.

The winners and participants were felicitated with Trophies and certificates of participation.The Childline Kathua (24x7 Emergency Programme for Child in need of care and protection) run by Jay Kay Women Welfare Society, Jammu Sponsored by Ministry of Women & Child development, New Delhi organised Kho-Kho event at Govt Middle School, Boys ‘C’ Kathua.

The Sports Programme was held under the supervision of the Headmaster of the school Anil Gupta. The Teachers, Staff and Childline Team of Kathua District besides Representatives of JKWWS NGO were also present.

During the programme, the Team of Childline Kathua highlighted the working of the organization  and imparted Awareness on Toll Free no 1098 for Children in need of Care and Protection.
