As part of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’, celebrating 75 years of India's Independence, the District Administration Kulgam along with Ministry of Power in association with NHPC and KPDCL today organized ‘Bijli Mahotsav’ at Power grid station Mirbazar Kulgam under the title of “Ujjwal Bharat Ujjwal Bhavishya”.The District Development Council (DDC) Chairperson, Kulgam, Mohd Afzal Parray inaugurated the Bijli Mahotsav by lighting the lamp.

Among others, DDC, BDC and PRI members, besides ADC, ACD, Senior Manager NHPC Uri II Power station, Executive Engineer KPDCL and other officers and a large number of people from various areas of the district participated in the function.During the Mahotsav, dignitaries highlighted the benefits of electricity and the unprecedented growth achieved by the power sector over the past few years.

Various cultural programmes, nukkad nataks and screening of short films on the power sector were held. Chairperson, District Development Council while addressing the gathering highlighted the role of power/electricity in transforming the lives of people.He also said that the government is doing remarkable work in the field of electricity. 

He said the local administration is implementing various schemes with the help of the central government, and the public is getting benefited from it, which is appreciative.He urged people to make judicious use of electricity.Speaking on the occasion, the Additional Development Commissioner Kulgam, Showkat Ahmad Rather highlighted achievements recorded in the power sector in the district in the last few years.
