The targeted murder of Ripudaman Singh Malik, a 75-year-old Sikh man who had been cleared in the terrible 1985 Air India Kanishka terrorist bombing case, has not yet been determined, according to the Canadian police. Moreover, there’s not only one man behind the incident, but three more who came into the headlines. The names Inderjit Singh Reyat, Talwinder Singh Parmar, and  Ajaib Singh Bagri, were also prime suspects in Air India Bombing in 1985. If you are unaware of this incident, let’s dig into the same.

About Air India Bombing in 1985

A flight operated by Air India flight named Emperor Kanishka on the Montreal-London-Delhi-Mumbai route was Air India Flight 182. It was run on June 23rd, 1985, by a Boeing 747-237B with the registration VT-EFO. At a height of 31,000 feet (9,400 metres) above the Atlantic Ocean, on its way from Montreal to London, it was destroyed in midair due to the explosion of a bomb placed by Canadian Sikh terrorists.

The attack, which included two attempted plane bombings, was a component of a broader international terrorist scheme. Air India Flight 301, which was due to depart from Japan, was to carry the first bomb, but it exploded before it could be placed into the aircraft. The second bomb was successfully installed aboard Air India Flight 182 in Canada. Although the conspiracy and the devices, which were concealed within luggage, were ultimately traced to Canada, their implementation included people and governments from five different countries and had international repercussions. The bombings were allegedly carried out by the separatist Babbar Khalsa gang.

Prior to the September 11 attacks in 2001, the bombing of Air India Flight 182 was both the deadliest aviation event in Air India's history and the world's deadliest act of aviation terrorism.

About Japan Incident

Air India Flight 182 was bombed at the same time as Narita Airport. Investigators discovered a connection between the two plans and ultimately came to the conclusion that those involved intended to bomb two flights simultaneously. However, because the bombers failed to account for the fact that Japan does not observe daylight saving time, the bomb at Narita exploded, killing two baggage handlers before it was loaded into the aircraft.

The International Sikh Youth Federation was also identified by a Canadian Commission of Inquiry, but the terrorist group Babbar Khalsa has received most of the blame.

Reason Behind The Explosion

After the attack on the Golden Temple in Amritsar on June 6, 1984, Talwinder Singh Parmar pledged to exact revenge on India. The Canadian Security Intelligence Service monitored Parmar due to his vehement statements, recording his phone calls from March 27 to July 2, 1985.
