Nearly 30 minutes before its scheduled release, Mani Ratnam's much-anticipated impending magnum opus, Ponniyin Selvan's teaser, was leaked online. The film was set to have a gala premiere on Friday in Chennai. According to the social media clip that has gone viral, it was captured during the event when the video's creators were testing it. The channel later pulled out the video from YouTube, but the damage had been done as several netizens had managed to download the video and share it on many social media pages. When the leaked video surfaced on social media, the makers then dropped the original teaser.
The film also featured beauty queen Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. Based on the eponymous epic novel by Kalki, Ponniyin Selvan has been produced by Mani Ratnam’s Madras Talkies. The upcoming film has been released by Lyca Productions and the first part will be released in cinemas worldwide on September 30.

From the teaser, it has been speculated that PS-1 has been one of the most expensive films. Speaking of the teaser, it gives equal attention to each of the main characters, but Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, who only makes an appearance in two shots, seems to be playing two roles. In the film, Aishwarya will be seen in the character of Nandini, the wife of Periya Pazhuvettaraiyar, and her mute mother, Queen Mandakini Devi.
Further, the cast includes Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Vikram, Karthi, Prakash Raj, Jayam Ravi, Parthiban, Sarath Kumar, Trisha, Jayaram, and more. Oscar-winner AR Rahman scored the music for this film, which has been shot by ace DOP Ravi Varman. Ponniyin Selvan is a pan-India project, which will hit the theatres on September 30, in Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam.
