In order to increase the green cover in the district, the administration would undertake a massive drive to plant six lakh saplings across Jalandhar in this ongoing monsoon season.

Chairing a meeting at district administrative complex, Deputy Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori said that the administration has chalked out plan to carry out mega plantation drive under which 500 saplings will be given to each of 890 village panchayats (nearly 4.45 lakh) of the district and remaining will be planted by every government department at their premises or vacant lands.

He said that the panchayats and departments will ensure proper upkeep of the saplings to ensure their growth. He said that special efforts would be made to sensitize the people to come forward and join the hands with administration in this noble cause.

Thori said that drive would help to increase the green cover in the district besides ensuring clean and pollution free environment to the people. He said that the trees have a vital role in reducing impact of global warming and pollution’s levels in the environment.

Soliciting fulsome support of people, he called upon them to plant saplings and ensure proper care for the sake of future generations.
