Sidhu Moosewala’s first song, which was released posthumously, has been removed from Youtube. The song received a red flag from the government on June 26, 2022. The official video of the song, which touches upon several controversial issues of Punjab, including the SYL (short for Sutlej-Yamuna Link) issue, is restricted from viewing in India. However, it continues to be trending globally, and also comes up on the chart of trending songs in India on YouTube.

The song SYL is also available on other audio-sharing platforms, while the 14-second teaser, released on Sidhu Moosewala’s official Facebook and Instagram pages, is also accessible. The song SYL, which has been currently banned from Youtube, reveals that the Satluj-Yamuna-Link Canal Project was the main topic of the song. During its announcement, the song became a hot topic of conversation across the nation as the Satluj-Yamuna-Link canal project has been a long-standing water-sharing dispute between Punjab, Haryana, and Himachal Pradesh.
Not only this, the song’s lyrics honoured terrorists, incited violence, and attempted to ignite the blaze of Punjab’s “self-determination” by referencing an independent Khalistan. It has also been speculated that the song also attempted to create enmity between Punjab and Haryana and Himachal Pradesh by saying that the government should give back two former Punjabi states.
Furthermore, it has been allegedly said that the song also glorifies terrorists such as Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale and Balwinder Jattana, who murdered two engineers working on the project. The song was considered controversial as issues ranging from the killing of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, the attack on the Golden Temple, and the release of Sikh prisoners was taken up in the video. But the exact reason has been kept under wraps by the government. What is your opinion on the subject? Do you think the song will be banned? If so, then why?
