The ‘World Blood Donor Day’ was today celebrated at Dak Bungalow Anantnag here by holding a blood donation camp organized by District Red Cross Society in collaboration with Indian Red Cross Society, GMC Anantnag and J&K AIDS Control Society.
Inaugurating the camp, Addl. Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Anantnag, Ghulam Hassan Sheikh termed the act of blood donation an act of solidarity and a service to mankind. He expressed satisfaction and contentment and donated a point of blood to lead with example.
The ADC exhorted all people to donate blood and asked them to make themselves aware of the benefits of blood donations. He also stressed on spreading awareness among the public regarding blood donation and debunking myths associated with it.
Volunteers from across the district thronged the camp and donated blood. It is in place to mention that employees from the District Administration, Information Department and Red Cross donated blood.Volunteers from Dawati Khair foundation, students of GCW Anantnag, GDC Boys Khanabal and GBHS Bijbehara also donated blood. More than 50 points of blood were donated on the occasion.
The camp was attended by Doctors from GMC, officials of various departments besides the volunteers of various social organizations.
