In more than 46 thousand crores bid Star TV and Viacom18 buy digital rights

-According to the broadcast rights of a match, IPL has now become the second most  expensive league in the world.

-BCCI will get at least Rs 107.5 crore for a match of IPL.

-According to the broadcast rights of a match, IPL has now become the second most expensive league in the world.

-In terms of per match, IPL has beaten EPl which was Rs 86 crore per match, which is only behind the National Football League (NFL) of America, which gets Rs 133 crore for broadcast rights of each match.

The auction of media rights for the next five seasons (2023 to 2027) of India's most expensive league i.e. Indian Premier League (IPL) may end on Tuesday. More than 70 percent of BCCI's earnings come from bidding for its media rights. In the first two days, the process of auctioning TV and digital rights for the Indian subcontinent has been completed. The rights of these two categories have been sold for Rs 44,075 crore. Two more categories will be auctioned today. Till the bidding process stops, the price of the bid has crossed the figure of Rs 46 thousand crores.

SONY Pictures Network for 10 years & STAR INDIA had the rights for last 5 years:

In 2008, Sony Pictures Networks had acquired the media rights for 10 years with a bid of Rs 8,200 crore and Star India in September 2017 had bought the media rights for the period 2017 to 2022 with a bid of Rs 16,347.50 crore.

70% of IPL's earnings come from its media rights:

The BCCI gets 70 percent of the IPL's earnings from here and the important thing to consider is that it does not even have to pay tax on this income, because under Section 12A of Income Tax, BCCI is exempted from paying tax on IPL earnings. It is possible that this time BCCI can get approximately fifty thousand crore rupees through media rights.

Dismissal of composite claim option sets the stage for Separate bid for each package :

In 2017 during the auction of TV rights, there was an option of composite claim through which companies could simultaneously bid for TV and digital. But this year's scenario is quite different as there is no composite claim, there is a separate bid for each package, so every bidder can bid separately. Earlier Facebook offered Thirty-nine hundred crore for digital rights & Star had offered a lesser amount for Digital, but got the rights. This was because Star had offered a higher amount under the composite claim for TV and digital.

BCCI would conduct 410 matches in between 2023 to 2027:

In the coming years, the Bank of Cricket Control in India (BCCI) 2023 - 2027 session IPL can conduct 410 matches. The Board has started this proposal for gaining a maximum number of bidders for selling media rights. Board is expected to conduct 74 matches in the coming couple of years 2023 & 2024 & after that this number would be increased to 84 & at the verge of 2027 this number would be expected to settle for 94.
