JKPCC Jammu initiates Mass Awareness Campaign on eve of “World Environment Day”

As part of the endeavour to achieve Plastic Free J&K, J&K Pollution Control Committee (PCC) has initiated a mass awareness campaign across several Districts of Jammu Division.The campaign has been launched  in the districts of Jammu, Udhampur, Kathua, Samba, Rajouri, Poonch, Doda and Reasi covering different locations including Vegetable & Fruit Markets, Gated Communities and Commercial areas. 

The drive has been launched under the supervision of Chairperson, JKPCC, Dr. Neelu Gera, Member Secretary, JKPCC, Dr. Kumar MK and  Sat Paul, Regional Director, JKPCC, Jammu. The campaign envisages cleanliness drives and distribution of cloth bags as a weekend endeavour for one month w.e.f. June 4 , 2022 till June 25, 2022.Approx. 40 kg of plastic waste was collected at Rajouri and Poonch during cleanliness drive.

The campaign at Jammu was inaugurated by, Member Secretary, JKPCC at Main Market, Trikuta Nagar in the presence of  Sat Paul, Regional Director, JKPCC, Municipal Councillor, Ward No. 54, Trikuta Nagar,  Neeraj Puri,   Arshad Nazir Malik, Divisional Officer, JKPCC, Jammu South ,  Anil Kumar Sharma, Divisional Officer, JKPCC, Jammu North, Smt. Anuradha, Scientist, JKPCC, Jammu,  Rajinder Prasad Kakkar, President, Trikuta Nagar Welfare Society and other officials of JKPCC along with members of TNWS.

Dr. Kumar MK, Member Secretary, JKPCC, Jammu appreciated the efforts made by Divisional Officers, JKPCC, Jammu, Kathua, Reasi, Udhampur, Rajouri, Poonch, Doda and Samba in organizing this mass awareness campaign, as an effort towards plastic free J&K. 

He emphasized the need to adopt eco-friendly and biodegradable products and avoid use of single use plastics to save our planet from further degradation and appealed to the general public and youth to be part of this campaign in large numbers to make J&K clean and green.

He also added that we have only one earth and it is the moral duty of each and every citizen to save it from degradation and make it green for further generations as well and requested the general public to make the campaign a grand success.

The campaign was supported by Radio Partner, Red FM, Producer Responsibility Organizations like Indian Pollution Control Association (IPCA), Disha Organization, NGO Live for Others-Being helpful Foundation, concerned local bodies at Samba and Rajouri, Municipal Councillor of ward No. 54 in Trikuta Nagar and Trikuta Nagar Welfare Society.

Cloth bags contribution was made by IPCA, Swaran Singh Rathore (Socal Activist), Udhampur, Berger Paints India Ltd., SIDCO, Samba, Indrashil Kaka-Ba and Kala Budh Public Charitable Trust, Coromandel International Ltd., Bari Brahmna, Sharp Sight Hospital, Trikuta Agro Products Pvt. Ltd., Katra, Mehr Cements Pvt. Ltd., Akhnoor, Sutlej textiles and industries limited and Aneja Food Products, Kathua.

The campaign was oriented towards motivating public to bring their waste cloth and plastic waste to the kiosks installed by JKPCC at selected locations and distribution of cloth bags among public and households in order to eliminate polythene and single use plastic in the environment and make the Union Territory of J&K Clean and Green.
