WMDA celebrates 'World Environment Day' at Ganderbal

The Wullar Manasbal Development Authority (WMDA) in collaboration with District Administration Ganderbal and Department of Environment Science, University of Kashmir, Srinagar today celebrated World Environment Day at Manasbal, here. 

The function was presided over by the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ganderbal, Shyambir in which faculty, research scholars, staff and students of University of Kashmir, Degree Colleges of Kashmir, Government Higher Secondary School Safapora and Government High School Kondabal participated. Besides local peoples of the area and some local volunteers also participated in the event.

The programme included Environment awareness speeches delivered by Faculty members of University of Kashmir, Chief Executive Officer of Wullar Manasbal Development Authority and a few Delegates.Speaking on the occasion, the DC highlighted the importance of the day and said that purpose of celebrating this day is to spread awareness about conservation of environment in the highest interest of the man kind. He also urged the WMDA to take stringent measures for the conservation of Manasbal lake to restore its pristine glory.

Later, Cleanness/Sanitation drive of Manasbal Park and its adjoining areas was carried out which was inaugurated by the DC.The Faculty and Research Scholars collected Water and solid waste samples of Lake for testing and recommendations for the management and conservation of Manasbal Lake. 

 On the occasion, the DC was informed that WMDA is organizing two water sports training events at Manasbal Lake from 15th June to 4th July, 2022 in collaboration with Indian Institute of Skiing and Mountaineering (IISM) Gulmarg and it is expected that 32 participants in each programme from IISM Gulmarg along with some participants from local population shall take part in the event.
