THE Deputy Commissioner (DC) Anantnag, Dr Piyush Singla today flagged-off a rally of 150 students of Euro Presentation School from DC Office here to mark the upcoming World Environment Day which is celebrated globally on the 5th of June.

Earlier, the students presented a memorandum to the DC outlining various suggestions for mitigating the effects of climate change and preserving the environment. Students during the rally were seen holding placards with appeals to people to save the environment.

They advocated strong reliance on 3Rs to reduce pressure on natural resources, called for all people to come together in addressing environmental issues and called on people to bring about behavioral change to save the environment.

Speaking to the media fraternity, Dr Singla said that the presentation of the memorandum sends a strong message towards preservation of the environment. He said that the present generation has to take serious steps for conservation of the environment or the future generations will have to pay for their mistakes.

He said that awareness among the younger generation regarding the need for conservation of environment and preserving our natural resources is an evidence of the behavioral change being driven through various preservation measures being run by the government.

He appealed to people to pledge to save the environment on this environment day because as the theme for this year’s environment day suggests, we have only one earth and we must ensure that every effort is made to preserve its fragile ecology.

Principal Euro Presentation School Anantnag present on the occasion said that the curriculum taught to students lays emphasis on preservation of environment and they are making every effort to ensure that students understand the importance and urgent need to preserve our surroundings.

Meanwhile, another event was held at GHSS Ranibagh where the students pledged to save the environment and make every conscious effort towards preserving earth and to not waste resources.
