The Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Bandipora on Saturday conducted 16th Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) Meeting at KVK Putushay, here.The meeting was held under the Chairmanship of Vice Chancellor SKUAST Kashmir, Prof. Nazir Ahmad Ganai. 

Director Extension SKUAST-K, Prof Dil Mohammad Makhdoomi, Joint Director Planning Bandipora Imtiyaz Ahmad, Deputy Director Sheep Husbandry Dr. Maroof Ahmad Shah, Chief Agriculture Officer Bandipora, Mujtaba Yahya, Chief Horticulture Officer Bandipora, Farooq Ahmad Tantry, District Sheep Husbandry Officer,  Dr. Showkat Ahmad, Manager Lead Bank, Officers of Floriculture, Fisheries, Sericulture and  Information   attended the meeting.

Dr. Tariq Sultan, Programme Coordinator KVK Bandipora presented a detailed powerpoint presentation of progress report for the year 2021-22.Speaking on the occasion, Vice Chancellor Prof. Nazir Ahmad Ganai stressed upon the need to develop Farmer Producer Organizations in Vegetable seed production as the climate of the region provides an ideal setting for seed production of a variety of vegetables at affordable costs.

He appreciated the role of Kendra in dissemination of technologies and skill development of rural youth.The Vice Chancellor congratulated District Sheep Husbandry Officer, Dr. Showkat for formation of two farmer producer organizations “Kashmir Merino Fine Wool Sheep Producers Company Ltd Hajin and Razdan Merino Sheep Producers Company Ltd Bandipora” in Sheep sector in the district. He stressed upon the need to cultivate scented rice and high yielding Maize and Pulse varieties for enhancement of income.

Prof. Nazir Ahmad said that efforts will be made to develop KVK into a composite campus.Director Extension explained in detail the difference between natural, organic and conventional farming and stressed upon the need to adopt zero budget natural farming for a sustainable and healthy production system.

Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Director Sheep Husbandry said that horned corriedale sheep is liked by the people and its breeding should be taken on large scale.Young Agri-entrepreneurs and Progressive farmers also attended the meeting and shared their experiences.Earlier the Vice Chancellor and Director Extension visited the KVK farm and gave on spot instructions to develop the farm and establishment of different units at the farm.
