The Bishnoi community considers wild animals as their family members & shelters them, not only this they have fought convincing movements to save wild cover of the region in which they have lost precious lives. Why is this community also known as true environmentalists & nature lovers? Let’s know:

Guru Jhmbeshwar also known Jambhoji established the Bishnoi Community by initiating the people:

During Samvat (Sanskrit methodology of counting) 1542, Guru Jambhoji initiated people and set the 29 principles of modesty by setting up the Kalash and gave initiation and established them as Bishnoi.

It is said that the fame of Guru Jambhoji had spread all around that time for listening to his sermons to which people used to come from considerable distances.

Guru Jambhoji organised a great yagya in 1542 at Samrathal Dhore in which innumerable people of all castes took part & all this was to tackle a severe famine in Rajasthan & to save them from dire situations by providing the victims with food and money.

It is learnt that maximum who have become Bishnoi were from Jats and that is why they are called Jat Bishnoi, at that time people from many castes and classes became Bishnoi.

Origin of the word Bishnoi:

The word Bishnoi is made up of two words  bees & nou (20+9), means twenty plus nine is equals to twenty-nine, these words indicate the seeking & following the righteous path in life by 29 rules were set by Guru Jambheshwar at the time of establishment and to which  and all the people of Bishnoi community started following & adopting. 

Who was Guru Jambheshwar?

Birth Details:

Shri Jambheshwar Bhagwan was the guru of Bishnoi society, who was born in Vikram Samvat 1508 and 1451 on Bhadwa Vadi Ashtami Janmashtami in the midnight of Kritika Nakshatra (Birth Star) which also of Lord krishna, on Monday in a village named Pipasar. 

Early life of Guru Jambheshwar:

Guru Jambhoji’s father's name was Lohatji Panwar and mother's name was Hansa Devi and Hansa Devi was the daughter of Chhapra resident Mohkam Singh Bhati.

According to mythological belief, Guru Jhambeshwar ji's old father Lohat ji did not have any children till the age of 50, for this reason he did penance to Lord Vishnu in the 51st year and it is believed that Lord Bishnu came in the form of a child saint to him and blessed him a boy. 

Jambhoji did not take his mother's milk after his birth and remained silent for 7 years after birth. And after 7 years he broke his silence on the day of Bhadwa Vadi Ashtami. Guru Jambheshwar had a simple life but was very talented as well as preferred to be alone due to saintly nature.

Bishnoi Community Spread in India:

It is said about the Bishnoi community that the people of the Bishnoi community are mostly found in North India & specially Rajasthan but now if we consider it well then the outcome comes that the Bishnoi community is found in the districts and villages of all the states of India. Most of the people of Bishnoi community reside in Rajasthan. The interesting factor is that in the Bishnoi community there are people from both major religions, Hindus as well as Muslims

.

About 370 gotras comes in Bishnoi Community:

GuruJambhoji founded the Bishnoi Community in 1542, but with the inclusion of many sects of the society it is said that this community comprises 370 gottras in totality. 

Here are the teachings by Guru Jhambeshwar to the followers through which a follower can live his life with righteousness:

1. After child birth, keep mother & child away from household activities related to kitchen & worship for 30 days (ritual impurity concern).

2. Women in her menstrual days should avoid kitchen activities like cooking & serving for 5 days.

3. Everyone should take an early bath before the sun rises.

4. One must abide his conduct by having these principles: Modesty, patience, satisfactions & cleanliness.

5. Involve self into worship at least two times a day i.e., Sunrise & sunset.

6. Sing Aarti (Hymns) of lord Vishnu in morning & evening & listen to his kathas & prayers. his

7. Involve in the community worship like Yog & Havan, special worshiping arrangements on prosperous occasions in family or society.

8. Consumption of water, fuel & milk the base lines for life, after purification like after proper cleaning by making it insect free.

9. Be truthful in conduct & maintain virtuousness in behaviour.

10.   Avoid stealing & restrict harbouring the same intent.

11.  One must be sincere & merciful in his conduct towards society.

12.  Avoid indulgence in disputes & conflicts.

13.  One should maintain distance from complaining, condemning & criticising.

14.  One must try to maintain internal & external purity.

15.  Never sterilise bulls.

16.  One should perform fasting on No-moon-day (Amavasya) for having god’s compassion

17.  Do not lie in life, speak pure words with due sincerity.

18.  Save the environment by stopping tree cuttings.

19.  Be vegan and avoid meat to save or maintain wild life.

20.  Practice forgiveness & kindness in all behavioural conducts.

21.  Avoid consuming tobacco and the products in which it is used.

22.  Avoid consumption of bhang or hemp.

23.  One must cook own food & maintain its purity concerns.

24.  Avoid consumption of alcohol & related activities.

25.  One should always be kind by providing shelter to homeless animals & saving them from slaughtering.

26.  As indigo plant generates blue colour assumed inauspicious, so one should avoid wearing blue articles.

27.  Never cut a green tree.

28.  One must abstain from consumption & training of opium.

29.  Till the last breath everyone should face life with righteousness & full strength and also keep away from lust, anger, greed, and attachment, this will set the godly path towards the higher consciousness.

Bishnoi society takes care of black deer like its own child.

The women of Bishnoi society of Rajasthan raise deer like their own children, even feed them with their breast milk. For nearly 500 years, people of the Bishnoi community have been raising animals as their children. Not only this, along with women, the men of this society raise the children of deer like a family in their homes. This is the biggest example of humanity in front of the world.

Salman Khan's blackbuck case is also related to the sentiments of this community.

Blackbuck case registered against Salman since 1998:

Salman is accused of killing a black deer while hunting. Those who filed a case against Salman Khan were none other than the people of Bishnoi society. In 1998, the Bishnoi society filed a case of deer poaching against Salman.

Gangster Lawrence Bishnoi had threatened to kill Salman Khan:

In a Marathon at Jaipur,Salman Khan at his  participation was strongly opposed by the Bishnoi society. At the same time, gangster Lawrence Bishnoi had even threatened to kill Salman Khan in front of the police, after which Salman's security was increased by the government.
