The Punjab Government has planned to launch a holistic and comprehensive programme for need-based integrated development of urban as well as rural Punjab.

A decision to this effect was taken by Punjab Chief Minister, Mr. Parkash Singh Badal while presiding over a high level meeting with the senior officers of the state government and the renowned academicians from Panjab University here late last evening at his residence. 

Mr. Badal said that state planning Board would also be re-casted on the lines of Planning Commission of India. The experts of international repute in the fields of education, vocational training, health, social sciences, agro based industries and other discipline would be involved to prepare a blueprint in order to carryout multi faceted development through out the state, said Mr. Badal. 

The Chief Minister directed the Vice Chancellor, Panjab University, Prof. RC Sobti to depute a team comprising the senior faculty members under his direct supervision to conduct a detailed constituency wise village-survey in the areas under Punjab University for mapping the ground realities related to the livelihood of general public. He advised that survey must cover the social, economical, educational, employment, quality of living and all other aspects of the people from the rural areas.

Mr. Sobti agreed to initiate a pilot project for conducting detailed survey in Lambi constituency.  

Mr. Badal further said that similar pilot project surveys would also be conducted by Guru Nanak Dev University in Ajanala and by Punjabi University in Sanaur Constituencies.  The Chief Minister further stated that these surveys would enable the state government for launching this integrated development programme in a more effective result oriented manner.

Prominent amongst those were present in the meeting included, Special Principal Secretaries to the Chief Minister Mr. KJS Cheema and Mr. KS Pannu, Vice Chancellor, Panjab University, Chandigarh Prof. RC Sobti, Dr. Nandita Professor & Chairperson, Department of Education Pb. Univ., Dr. Gurmail Singh Professor & Chairperson, Department of Economics, Dr. Sudhir Sharma Department of Public Administration, Dr. Kiran Preet Kaur Coordinator, Centre for Social Work and  Mr. Harpreet Singh Architect, Panjab University, Chandigarh.
