The 75th Independence Day of the country was celebrated in Moga district today with full vigour and patriotism. As usual, the district level function was held at the local Dana Mandi in which Deputy Commissioner Sandeep Hans was the Chief Guest and unfurled the National Tricolor. During the function, MLA Dharamkot Sukhjit Singh Kaka Lohgarh, ADGP (Provisioning) Dr Naresh Arora, District and Sessions Judge Mandeep Kaur Pannu, Senior Superintendent of Police Harmanbir Singh Gill, Former Minister Malti Thapar, Former MLA Vijay Sathi, Chairman Inderjit Singh Talwandi Bhangerian, Chairman Inderjit Singh Bir Charik, Chairman Vinod Bansal, ADCs, other officials and spectators were present.After hoisting the tricolour on the occasion, Hans said that when this country was under British rule, it was the dream of every Indian to break the shackles of slavery and liberate this country. In this war of independence, some freedom fighters left an invaluable mark in the pages of history and some, while contributing, got lost in the shadow of obscurity. We are proud that about 80 per cent of those who sacrificed their lives for the freedom of the country were Punjabis. This day inspires us to follow in their footsteps.
Following the instructions of covid 19, the Punjab government had decided not to put development jhakis in the district level events but on the special initiative of Deputy Commissioner Sandeep Hans, a 15-minute video film was made which caught the attention of all the viewers. In this film, Apart from recalling the unparalleled contribution of freedom fighter Lala Lajpat Rai, film actor Sonu Sood, famous scientist Narinder Singh Kapani, Cricketer Harmanpreet Kaur, Shot Put Player Tejinderpal Singh Toor, famous writer Babu Rajab Ali, Sadhu Daya Singh, Novelist Jaswant Singh Kanwal, Writer Baldev Singh Sadaknama, Shaheed Subedar Joginder Singh, Principal Kanahaiya Lal Kapoor, Naik Buta Singh, Dr Mathra Das Pahwa, Player Bhagwan Singh Thathi Bhai, Player Harpreet Singh Brar etc., a description of the public facilities and development works being provided in Moga district was also presented. The video was well-received by the audience.
