The Punjab State Cooperative Milk Producers Federation Limited commonly known as Milkfed on Friday launched Accelerated Breed Improvement Program to enhance the milk production  through Embryo Transfer Technology.Addressing a press conference at Local Milk Plant, Milkfed Managing Director Kamaldeep Singh Sangha said that under this program, embryos of higher genetic merit indigenous bovines would be transferred in to surrogate cows. He said that this technology will not only increase population of livestock but would also improve the breeding and productivity, apart from creating healthy cattle at a faster rate.He said that objective of program is to conserve and develop indigenous breeds under the Rashtriya Gokul Mission and further, this would propogate high yielding bovines.He added that this program would help to increase the income of dairy farmers hence more people would turn up to the dairy profession.The Managing Director said that this scheme has been initiated through Verka Milk Plants in Jalandhar, Ludhiana, SAS Nagar, Patiala and Amritsar and hoped that this program would help to make Punjab a breeder state.He said that directions have been issued to the official to implement the program effectively in Punjab and asked them to sensitize the dairy farmers through camps about the scheme.He said that National Dairy Development Board and experts from GADVASU would offer technical assistance to run this program successfully.Prominent among present on the occasion included Dr Jatinder Pal Singh, Dr Narinder Singh and General Managers of the Verka Milk Plants.
