Promotion from PPS to IPS: National SC Commission issues notice to Punjab govt

Taking strong notice of the non-adherence of reservation policy while promoting police officers from PPS to IPS, National Commission for Scheduled Castes on the orders of it’s Chairman Vijay Sampla has issued notice to the Government of Punjab.It is pertinent to note that, disregarding the reservation policy, on the seventh of April this year, twenty-four PPS- Punjab Police Services officers were promoted as IPS- Indian Police Services Cadre and none was from scheduled castes. Alleging same  Sushil Kumar, PPS posted as Commandant 1st IRB has sent a communique to Commission apprising it of non-adherence of policy. NCSC has issued notice to Chief Secretary Punjab, Secretary Department of Home Affairs and Director General of Punjab Police asking them to submit answer with fifteen days, the facts and information on the action taken regarding allegations/matter.Sampla warned that denying legally enabled reservations in promotions is an offense. Strict action will be taken against the erring officials who ignored the national reservation rules and Punjab Scheduled Castes and Backward Classes (Reservation in Services) Amendment Act, 2018 (Punjab Act No.17 of 2018).
