The Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) convoy is increasing day by day in Punjab with eminent personalities joining the party. The party got a major boost when international athlete and Commonwealth Games 2010 medalist Harminder Singh, former additional commissioner Rakesh Kumar and social worker Baljinder Singh Dhillon joined the Aam Aadmi Party at the party headquarters here on Monday. Senior leader of the AAP and Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Punjab Assembly, Harpal Singh Cheema and party’s Punjab affairs in-charge Jarnail Singh, inducted the personalities into the party.Harminder Singh has been a medalist in the Commonwealth Games 2010 in the 20 km race. He has served the Indian Army from 2004 to 2011. He has also participated in the China Olympics. Harminder Singh is the first Indian to win a medal after Milkha Singh in the Commonwealth Games. He has been the coach of the Indian team in athletics for four years. Meanwhile, Rakesh Kumar has served in the Punjab Civil Services for a long time. He has been an experienced and honest officer of Punjab. Rakesh Kumar has more than 30 years of experience in politics and bureaucracy. He has been a professor of English for seven years before joining the civil services. Baljinder Singh Dhillon, a prominent businessman and philanthropist also joined the AAP with him. Dhillon has been keenly engaged in agriculture and social service work in addition to his business for the last 35 years.

Welcoming them into the party, AAP Punjab in-charge Jarnail Singh said that influenced by the pro-people policies of the Aam Aadmi Party and the works of Delhi's Arvind Kejriwal government, people are joining the party in large numbers.  He said that the Kejriwal government has made Delhi's government schools world-class and introduced a new model of development by improving the condition of government hospitals. "Today the people of Delhi are teaching their child in the government schools after getting their names dropped from private schools and the people are getting good treatment in government hospitals free of cost. The result of that is today people across the country like the Aam Aadmi Party and Arvind Kejriwal," he said.LoP Harpal Singh Cheema said that today people of every section of Punjab are coming together and joining the AAP to save Punjab. Taking a dig at Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh, Cheema said that Captain did not fulfill any of the promises made before the elections. “Captain is the most inefficient and lazy Chief Minister of the whole of India. He betrayed the people of Punjab by making false promises," he added. The leaders who joined the party said that only the Aam Aadmi Party can develop Punjab and being impressed by the policies of the party and the works of the Kejriwal government of Delhi, they decided to join the party. “We will work together for a prosperous Punjab and create a corruption-free, mafia-free and crime-free Punjab,” they added.
