Jalandhar Commissionerate Police Busts Interstate Gang Involved In Smuggling Of Drugs

In a major breakthrough the Jalandhar Commissionerate Police today busted an interstate gang involved in smuggling of opium and poppy husk by arresting two persons along with four kilograms of opium and 50 kilograms of poppy husk.Divulging the details, the Commissioner of Police Jalandhar Mr. Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said that on a tip off that an interstate gang is operating for supply of opium and poppy husk in the area. He said that checking was organized by the CIA Staff-I near Paragpur Police post during which a truck bearing number HR 68 A 5148, coming from Phagwara side, was intercepted by the Police. Mr. Bhullar said that during the checking the driver of truck identified as Malkiat Khan and his accomplice Ranjit Singh alias Jeeti told that it had plastic granules which were to be delivered in Baddi and Patiala. 

The Commissioner of Police said that thorough checking of truck was organized under supervision of Assistant Commissioner of Police Mr. Major Singh after which 50 kilograms of poppy husk stacked below the plastic bags and four kilograms of opium hidden in the cabin of the truck was recovered. He said that both the truck driver and his accomplice were arrested by the Police and a FIR under section 15, 18/61/85 NDPS Act has been registered against the accused at Jalandhar cantt Police station. Mr. Bhullar said that during the investigation the accused had confessed that they were part of interstate gang involved in smuggling of drugs to the state. The Commissioner of Police said that the accused revealed that they were into this trade from last three years and this consignment was to be handed over to some person on National highway at a designated place. He said that the accused used to bring the consignment of drugs from the Chittorgarh (Rajasthan) and supply it in the state. Mr. Bhullar said that further investigation into the case was going on.
