‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ week long campaign today commenced here with the ‘Media-se-Mulakaat’- presided over by Deputy Commissioner, Om Prakash.Programme Officer, ICDS, Ritu Mahajan, District Information Officer, Parshotam Dass and Print and Electronic Media persons attended the event. While interacting with the media persons, the Deputy Commissioner informed that Kathua district has 894 females against 1000 males, which depicts  improvement in Child Sex Ratio as compared to the past years. He said the role of media is pivotal for successful implementation of the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao scheme, as it requires widespread diffusion of information through print, electronic and social media platforms. He appreciated the media fraternity of Kathua for giving due coverage to the welfare schemes like BBBP aimed at to generate awareness and improve the efficiency of welfare services intended for girls.The Programme Officer said that the ICDS department, in coordination with   different departments, is working to empower girls through education by ensuring their maximum enrolment child in the schools. She briefed the media about range of activities planned for the week long Beti Bachao Beti Padhao week which will culminate on International Women Day- 8th March 2021.On the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner launched "Awareness Jingle" prepared by Information Department on Beti Bachao Beti Padhao campaign.The Deputy Commissioner also felicitated Media persons for active media coverage of BBBP campaign events and initiatives of district administration.
