Chief Principal Secretary to Chief Minister, Punjab Suresh Kumar today said that it was matter of great pride and satisfaction for all of us that the Punjabis were upholding the glorious tradition of serving the motherland by playing a vanguard role in safeguarding the borders of the country.Presiding over a function organized by Shaheed Pariwar Fund at Hind Samachar Ground here today, the Chief Principal Secretary to Chief Minister, accompanied by Chief Editor of Hind Samachar group Mr. Vijay Chopra and Joint Editor Mr. Avinash Chopra, said that the immense contribution of Punjabis in maintaining law and order of country besides the protection of nation’s borders was unsurpassable. He said that around nearly 15-20 lakh Punjabis were serving the Armed forces, Para Military forces and Police across the country. Likewise, Mr. Suresh Kumar said that an equal number of veterans have retired from the forces after years of glorious service.Lauding the Hind Samachar group for rendering marvelous service to the victims of the terrorism and families of the security forces through Shaheed Pariwar Fund, the Chief Principal Secretary said that it was a noble cause which should be lauded by one and all. He said that since its inception in 1984 the Shaheed Pariwar Fund has given a healing touch to the terrorist affected families through this endeavor. Mr. Suresh Kumar said that even today under the visionary and dynamic leadership of Mr. Vijay Chopra the organization was extending a helping hand to needy people.

The Chief Principal Secretary also hailed the role of Hind Samachar group in cementing the ethos of communal harmony, peace and brotherhood besides setting a benchmark in journalism of courage. Recalling the supreme sacrifice of Late Lala Jagat Narain and Late Ramesh Chander for securing unity and integrity of country during the black days in the state, he said that Mr. Vijay Chopra and Mr. Avinash Chopra were upholding the glorious tradition of family to serve the country.  Mr. Suresh Kumar said that not everyone was blessed with this zeal to serve the mankind with their sweat, toil and blood adding that all of us must follow them for serving the country.Striking an emotional chord, the Chief Principal Secretary to Chief Minister, while sharing an anecdote of his posting at 1987 when twin bomb blast had taken heavy toll of life in Amritsar, said that Punjab suffered a lot during the black days but Hind Samachar group valiantly helped the victims of militancy that too at the cost of their family. Mr. Suresh Kumar said that he could not have expected a good start of New Year more than this event, which was aimed at extending succor to the needy families. He also hailed the Hind Samachar group for disbursing relief material worth more than Rs 100 crore to needy people in last more than three decades.Earlier, the Chief Principal Secretary to Chief Minister along with Mr. Vijay Chopra also flagged off the 581st truck of relief material for the distressed people.On the occasion, Commissioner of Police Mr. Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, Deputy Commissioner Mr. Ghanshyam Thori, Senior Superintendent of police Dr. Sandeep Garg, Commissioner Municipal Corporation Mr. Karnesh Sharma, Chairman Citizen Cooperative Bank Mr. KK Sharma.
