Drawing inspiration from Shaheed Bhagat Singh and dressed in eye-catching bright yellow turbans and spotless white kurta-pyjamas, a group of street-play actors from Punjab on Tuesday arrived at the Singhu border to extend their support to farmers protesting against the new farm laws. The actors, who perform 'nukkad nataks' to espouse various causes, have been visiting different spots where farmers have been protesting for nearly two weeks now.Speaking to IANS, Kamal Dhillon, a member of the Maa Bagowali cultural group, said: "Till the time these new farm laws are repealed, we will not go back from here.""We are performing street plays at protest sites and even Punjab villages to mock these draconian laws and the central government. We are wearing yellow turbans and white kurta-pyjamas just like our idol Bhagat Singh, who freed India from the British rule," he said. The protest by the farmers of Haryana and Punjab meanwhile continued for the 13th day on Tuesday on Delhi-Haryana's Singhu border. The farmers are protesting against The Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement of Price Assurance and Farm Services Act, 2020; The Farmers Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020; and The Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act 2020.The farmers claim that the new farm laws would pave the way for the dismantling of the minimum support price system, leaving them at the mercy of big corporates. In the wake of the 'Bharat Bandh', the Delhi Police on Tuesday intensified its vigil at various entry points into the national capital.Barricades were put up at multiple checkposts put up to monitor the entry of vehicles and people in the national capital. There is a special focus on vehicles with Punjab and Haryana registration numbers. The Delhi Police along with paramilitary forces were seen deployed at various checkposts even while senior police officers supervised the security arrangements. The city police force has already made it clear that no disruptions on roads or forcible stopping of vehicles would be allowed.
