Jalandhar to get nine new Sewage treatment Plants

DC directs officers to expedite the execution of the projects to ensure clean environment

To ensure clean environment and use of the sewage water for the irrigation after proper treating, Jalandhar would have nine new sewage treatment plants including one in jurisdiction of Municipal Corporation, seven in other Municipal Committees/Nagar Panchayat and one by Punjab Small Industries & Export Corporation (PSIEC) in Focal Point.Presiding over the meeting of District Environment Committee in district administrative complex, Deputy Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori said that the work of 50-MLD STP in Pholriwal has already been ordered by Municipal Corporation Jalandhar and projects of four other STPs in MC Bhogpur, MC Kartarpur, MC Adampur and Nagar Panchayat Goraya have been approved and are on tendering stage now.He said that the survey for new STPs in Nagar Panchayat Bilga, MC Mehatpur and MC Alawalpur would also be set up as the survey for the lands has been initiated.Further, a STP would be also installed by Punjab Small Industries & Export Corporation (PSIEC) in Focal Point for the treatment of sewage.Thori added that besides this, the MC has also decided to carry out rehabilitation of existing 100-MLD STP in Pholriwal and work would be started soon.He said that besides solving the sewerage problem of the concerned areas, these would also help making the district clean and green. He also said the work needs to be completed at the earliest.The Deputy Commissioner also asked the Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare Department to make a comprehensive strategy to ensure none of the farmers indulge in the stubble burning in the upcoming paddy harvesting season.He said that the entire projects need to be completed in a time-bound manner and asked the officials to give ‘top priority’ to the environment so that we can give a safe future to the coming generations. He said that it was need of the hour for giving fillip to the overall development of the areas.He reiterated that the Punjab Government led by Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh is committed for the holistic development of the district and prosperity of the people and no stone would be unturned.Prominent among present included ADC (G) Jasbir Singh, MC Joint Commissioner Harcharan Singh, PPCB Executive Engineer Kuldeep Singh, Executive Engineer =Punjab Water Supply and Sewerage Board Jatin Vasudeva, DSP Sarabjit Rai, and others.
