Reviewing the arrangements and preparations being utilised to contain COVID-19 pandemic here, the Principal Secretary General Administration Alok Shekhar today said that he would raise the issue before the State Government for sanctioning of additional manpower in the government healthcare facilities at Jalandhar thus tackling the Covid-19 far more efficaciously.The Principal Secretary, who was here to take stock of the situation in wake of mounting COVID cases, said that the tireless efforts being made by the District Administration and all frontline departments especially health department in combating the pandemic were highly appreciable.On the demand made by the Deputy Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori andCommissioner of Police Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, the Principal Secretary said that he would take up the matter of providing additional manpower to the hospitals in Jalandhar so that load of the patients could be tackled effectively as the existing staff was already overburdened.He also emphasized that there is need to intensify the ongoing awareness drive to sensitise people about COVID on the lines of polio immunization to motivate the people to come forward for Covid testing as early testing could lead to early detection which would further ensure early treatment.The Principal Secretary assured the district administration that there was no dearth of resources and manpower with the state government and additional sources would be provided as per the requirement.

Expressing satisfaction over efforts being made by the district administration, Shekhar assured fulsome support and cooperation to the district administration by the Punjab government led by Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh in this war against Corona.The Deputy Commissioner apprised the Principal Secretary about the initiatives being taken by the district administration to combat the Corona Virus effectively. He said that sufficient bed capacity for the level-II and Level-III has been made available in the civil hospital and other private hospitals. The Deputy Commissioner said that quality treatment was being ensured to the patients admitted in the local Civil Hospital. He said that these patients were given nutritious food besides taking care of their personal needs.Police Commissioner GPS Bhullar and SSP Satinder Singh said that police department had also initiated awareness drive to sensitize the people about preventive measures.On the occasion, MC Commissioner Karunesh Sharma, Additional Deputy Commissioner Vishesh Sarangal, SDMs Rahul Sindhu, Dr Jai Inder Singh, PUDA EO Navneet Kaur Bal, Joint Commissioner Shayari Malhotra, Assistant Commissioner Hardeep Singh, Civil Surgeon Dr Gurinder Chawla, Medical Superintendent Dr Mandeep Kaur, Assistant Civil Surgeon Dr Gurmeet Kaur Duggal, SMO Dr Kashmiri Lal, Dr Satish Kumar, Dr Paramjit Singh and others were present.
