The Deputy Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori and Commissioner of Police Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said that due to Covid-19 pandemic, the District level celebrations on 74th Independence Day would be held with strict adherence to the healthy safety protocols especially social distancing norms in local Guru Gobind Singh Stadium.Taking stock of the preparations of the I-Day Function in a meeting convened at Stadium, the Deputy Commissioner and the Commissioner of Police said that with the surge in Covid cases, no cultural event to be held during the celebrations. They said that the children from the schools and elderly would also not be allowed at functions on August 15.They said that this year, Cooperation and Jails Minister Punjab Mr Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa would hoist the national flag.They said that the celebrations of this auspicious occasion would be limited to the unfurling of the national flag by Chief Guest, address by the chief guest, an inspection of the parade, march past, besides special honour of the ‘Covid Warriors’ who not only risked their lives on duty but also contributed wholeheartedly in this battle against novel coronavirus despite a spike in the Covid cases.Mr Ghanshyam Thori and Mr Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said that the indomitable spirit and fortitude displayed by these warriors was an example for the others. The Deputy Commissioner and Commissioner of Police said that these Corona fighters were the real heroes who had played a vanguard role to keep the pandemic at bay.They said that freedom fighters would also be honoured by district administration at their homes due to pandemic. They also inspected the stadium and gave necessary directions to the security personnel and civil staff regarding the arrangements to be made for the Independence Day celebrations.On the occasion, Additional Deputy Commissioner Mr Jasbir Singh, Joint Commissioner of Police Mr Charanjit Singh Sohal, SDM Mr Rahul Sindhu, Joint MC Commissioner Mr Harcharan Singh, Assistant Commissioner Mr Hardeep Singh, ACP Model Town Mr Harinder Singh and others were present.
