A day after joining the office, Senior Superintendent of Police Navjot Singh Mahal directed to further tightening the noose against the illicit liquor trade which led to arrest of 8 persons with registration of nine cases under Excise Act. Mahal, on Sunday, held a detailed meeting with the police officers to chalk out an action plan for eliminating the drugs, illicit liquor menace and ensuring the strictest action against sand mafia in the district. Giving details, Navjot Singh Mahal said that as he had already warned such unscrupulous elements indulged in the trade of illicit liquor, drugs and sand mafia, the District Police would intensify the crackdown for bringing them to book. He said the police teams seized 457 litres of illicit liquor as well as 802 litre of licit liquor during today’s operation. This nexus of illicit liquor trade will be broken thus paving the way for elimination of this malpractice in Hoshiarpur.
