While interacting with the prominent persons of tribal area of district Lahaul-Spiti through video conferencing from Raj Bhavan, today, Governor Bandaru Dattatraya stressed to protect and preserve the rich tribal culture. He also emphasised on protecting the rights of tribal people and development of the area.The Governor appreciated the efforts made by the district administration in curbing the corona pandemic and said that the number of testing should be increased, for which special campaigns should be organized. He also stressed on organizing blood donation camps. He said that the development activities in the tribal area would be further strengthened with the construction of Rohtang tunnel. He said that education, health and employment activities in tribal areas should be strengthened.On the occasion, local representatives raised the demand of specialist doctors at the regional hospital, Keylong, maintenance of the 197 km long Grampho-Kaza road, repair of the Tandi road and land settlement work in Lahaul area. The Governor assured them that the State Government would be made aware of their demands.

Kamal Kant, Deputy Commissioner briefed about preparedness and facilities in view of COVID-19 and impact of Rohtang Tunnel on the valley, especially from tourism point of view and status of telecommunication. He said that last year, 1.16 lakh man-days had been generated through MGNREGA and this year also works were in progress in every panchayat. He said that communication networks has improved significantly in the area and the system of communication would be further strengthened within a year. However, V-sats have also been provided in Panchayats. Rajesh Dharmani, Superintendent of Police also detailed about the situation on Indo-Tibetan (China) border area.Ramesh Ruwalva, Zila Parishad Chairman, Nawang Upasak, Tribal Advisory Committee member, Pushpa Devi, TAC member-cum- member of child welfare committee, Sunil, ZP member, Sumita Dogra, BDC Chairperson,  Rigzin Hyerappa and social worker were also participated in the interaction and raised various local issues.Rakesh Kanwar, Secretary to Governor was also present on the occasion.
