Senior NC Leader & Former Speaker Assembly Haji Mubarak Gul while paying rich tributes to martyrs of 13th July 1931 asserted that the struggle of the martyrs had no communal overtones, it was a fight of oppressed against opressor,of tyranised against tyrant. In his message, Gul said that the day was a turning point in the political history of Jammu & Kashmir which marked a profound departure from timidity to dynamism. It took many years of patience and perseverance for the people of Jammu and Kashmir to rise from years of slumber  aimed to build the whole edifice of political opposition to the autocratic rule. The martyrs laid down their precious lives for the restoration of people's rights and bringing about a new dawn of freedom. Today we laud the sacrifices of those who fought for those who were not able to raise their heads against the suppression. The day also symbolized a collective expression of the political aspirations of people of Jammu and Kashmir and their individuality. "The day is a watershed moment in the history of Jammu & Kashmir ,it has all through valourised and inspired numerous people and will continue to do so in the future also. It goes without saying how important a role these martyrs played in ushering an era of democracy in Jammu & Kashmir.Their struggle provided a bedrock onto which subsequent pro people measures were taken, be it the protection of rights of local people , abolishing of big landed estates and feudalism, granting of gender nuetral adult franchise and free education. I on this day pay my earnest tributes to the martyrs and pray to Almighty to bestow upon them highest echelons in Jannah, their is a lot the present generation can imbibe from the valour and selfless sacrifice of these great men who we all are indebted to" Gul said.
