DC Baramulla inaugurates Honey sale camp

Deputy Commissioner (DC), Baramulla Dr G N Itoo, today, inaugurated a day long honey sale cum distribution camp at Apiculture Division, Khawjabagh which marked the participation of farmers from various parts of the district. It was the first ever sale camp organized in Baramulla district.Speaking on the occasion, the DC appreciated the role of agriculture department for taking Baramulla as the leading district in honey production. He urged upon the concerned authorities to extend their range of operation and involve more farmers especially the unemployed youth under various welfare programmes sponsored by the department so that they can avail off the benefits for their sustainable livelihood. DC also said that at least 3 villages of the district shall be adopted as 'Honey Villages' where emphasis shall be given on apiculture production.Moreover, Dr Itoo stressed to disseminate awareness among the people about various new and scientific beekeeping methods so that production and productivity is increased.Meanwhile, Chief Agriculture Officer Mohammad Yousuf Shah informed that about 250 beekeepers are registered in Baramulla district and are producing about 250 quantils of honey annually. He said that the honey is harvested three times in a year and in current spring harvesting season about 74 quintals of honey was produced.
