In consonance of the firm commitment of the state government to ensure smooth and hassle free procurement of wheat by following all the medical protocols that mandates social distancing in grain markets, Lok Sabha Member of Parliament Chaudhary Santokh Singh on Saturday visited main markets of Jalandhar and Kartarpur to oversee the procurement operations.MP during his visit to the markets, directed the officers to make sure that every single grain of wheat was procured and lifted without any sort of delay and at the same time, the social distancing must be maintained in the grain markets to prevent Covid-19 pandemic.He said that the officers must ensure the facilities of hand washing, soaps, masks to all the farmers, labourers and others keeping in view of the prevailing circumstances. MP asked the officers to ensure timely payment of the produce to the farmers and proper arrangements in the grain markets.He told that all out efforts must also be made for proper lifting of the grains.MP said that the state government has already evolved a viable mechanism for lifting grains within 48 hours of the procurement. Likewise, he said arrangements have also been made to ensure that the payment of grains was also made to the farmers within 48 hours of the purchase.He said that all these steps have ensured smooth, hassle free and prompt procurement and lifting of grains besides timely payment to the farmers.During interaction with the farmers, he asked them about the entire procurement operation.Prominent amongst others present on the occasion included District Mandi Officer Mr Davinder Singh and others were present.
