Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Monday announced to honour renowned boxer Simranjit Kaur with a cash award of Rs. 5 lac, who is the first Punjabi woman boxer ever qualified for Olympics. Disclosing this here today a spokesperson of the Chief Minister’s Office said that Sports Minister Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi accompanied by Simranjit Kaur and her family members met Captain Amarinder Singh here this morning. Congratulating Simrajit Kaur for this rare feat, the Chief Minister said that she had really made Punjab and every Punjabi proud and wished her best of luck for stellar performance in the Tokyo Olympics-2020. He hoped that Simranjit Kaur would be a role model for other girls to excel in arena of sports. He also assured that the State Government would extend all possible support and cooperation to her in future too.Meanwhile, the Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi assured that the Sports Department would provide a suitable Government job as per her eligibility.Notably, the promising boxer started her career from native village Chakar in Ludhiana district and won bronze medal in Junior Women Championship held in 2013, bronze medal in Senior World Championship in 2018 and Silver medal in Asian Boxing Championship in 2019.Prominent amongst those present on the occasion included Patiala Member Parliament Preneet Kaur, Rajpal Kaur mother of Simranjit Kaur, eminent writer Principal Sarwan Singh, Coach Principal Balawant Singh Sandhu and panch of village Chakar Gurjit Singh.
