Governor Bandaru Dattatraya decorated 58 Police, Correctional Service, Home Guards and Civil Defence and Fire Service personnel with medals at the 'Investiture Ceremony' held at Raj Bhawan, today in the presence of Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur.While commending medal winners for distinguished and meritorious services, the Governor said it was a pride moment to honour those persons who have contributed outstanding and exemplary services to the society. There contribution will inspire others to work with zeal for betterment and welfare of the society.He said that it was the responsibility of police to maintain peace and added that police were performing its responsibility in a better way. He said that police officers and jawans were also working sternly against drugs abuse. He said drug addiction has become a big challenge for the society and especially youth. The Government has made serious efforts against drug menace and sensitizing people at every level and added that fear and surveillance of police was also important in this task.“By controlling such antisocial elements within the scope of law, youth energy can be saved from this social evil”, said Dattatraya.He said that Himachal Pradesh Police was known all over the country for its fearless, honest and fair image and it was important to maintain this image.The Governor awarded President Police Medal for distinguished services to A.P. Siddique, Ram Dev, Parshotam Chand and Ashok Tiwari. He also awarded Police Medal for meritorious services to 19 recipients, including A. P. Singh, Himanshu Mishra and Shubhra Tiwari Heera. Three Correctional Service Medals were awarded for meritorious services to Sushil Kumar, Hari Dutt and Pankaj Sharma. Two personnel were honoured with Presidential Home and Civil Defence Medal for distinguished services. 16 personnel were awarded with Home and Civil Defence Medal for meritorious services, while one person was awarded with President's Fire Service Medal for distinguished services and 12 winners for Fire Service Medal for meritorious work were awarded.Chief Secretary Anil Khachi, Director General of Police S.R. Mardi, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Sanjay Kundu and senior officials of the state government and other dignitaries were also present on the occasion.
