Marathon runners run to make Punjab drug free

With an aim to eradicate drug menace in Punjab, Gillco Park Hills, Mohali organized Punjab Winter Half Marathon on the occasion of Republic Day.  Thousands of runners including school and college students, senior citizens and people from all walks of life irrespective of the gender participated in the half Marathon of 10 km and 5km. The marathon was flagged off at Gillco Park Hills, Sector 126, Mohali. The participants were full of passion, with goal of victory was visible in everyone's eyes. Volunteers and runners' supporters encouraged the runners and also offered them water and juice. The participants after running through their designated routes, finally ended their race at at Gillco Parks, Mohali.Ranjit Singh Gill, CMD, Gilco Group and Executive Director Tejpreet Singh Gill awarded the trophy to the winning runners and expressed their good luck for their upcoming competition. After that, along with the runners, the winning runners including Ranjit Singh Gill also mounted the flag. Sukhdev Singh completed the half marathon in 1 hour 27 minutes to become the winner. While completing the race in 02 hours 10 minutes, Neelam Aryan was the winner of the women's category. Completing 10 Kilometers in 45 minutes Raminder Bhatia and 5 kilometers in 22 minutes Praveen Singh became the winners whereas in women category Swati Mittal who completed 10 kilometers in 1 hour and Rakhi Sharma who completed 5 kilometers in 29 minutes were the winners.After the conclusion of the competition, Gillco Group CMD Ranjit Singh Gill said, “the effort of the runners was very commendable. The aim of this competition was to make Punjab drug free and we are happy to see that people are able to succeed in our endeavor. Such competitions provide physical and mental strength and also motivates other people to participate in such competitions. Such activities help in bringing the society together.”While appealing to youth to stay away from drugs and stay healthy, he added, “Drug addiction has ruined our society particularly affecting youth and we have to stand together to fight the menace.”
