In a unique initiative the district administration under the leadership of Deputy Commissioner Mrs. Deepti Uppal today organized a mega Lohri for 500 new born girls in the district under the nationwide Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao campaign.MLA Rana Gurjeet Singh was the special guest of the district level function organized at Shalimar Bagh here. In his address he batted for equal opportunities for girls in the every field. He said that girls were today scaling new heights in every field and they could excel further if every family supports them for cherishing their dreams and aspiration.In his address, the Deputy Commissioner Mrs. Deepti Uppal said that it was the need of the hour to change the attitude towards girl child for the well being of the society. She said that all of us should come forward for accomplishing this mission to give shape to a new society. She said that for this purpose only the district administration today celebrated Lohri of 500 new born girls in the whole district. The Deputy Commissioner said Lohri for 100 girls each was also organized at Sub Division level in Phagwara, Nadala and Sultanpur Lodhi today.Prominent amongst other present on the occasion included CJM Mr. Ajit Pal Singh, SDM Kapuprthala Mr. Varinder Pal Singh Bajwa, Assistant Commissioner Dr. Shikha Bhagat, District Program Officer Mrs. Sneh Lata and others.
