Led by Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar  Varinder Kumar Sharma hundreds of students today pledged to make Jalandhar drug free district by participating in mini marathon to give a healthy start to the Spark career Guidance Mela slated to take place on December 19-20.The Deputy Commissioner, accompanied by Additional Deputy Commissioner Mr. Jasbir Singh, flagged off the mini marathon rally from the Guru Gobind Singh stadium. Despite of severe cold hundreds of students participated in the Mini marathon to spread the message of drug free and healthy Jalandhar. The rally that commenced from Guru Gobind Singh Stadium, culminated at the same venue after passing through Chun-Mun Chowk, BMC Chowk, Namdev Chowk, Skylark Chowk, Guru Nanak Mission Chowk and Milk Bar Chowk.Meanwhile, the Deputy Commissioner said that in order to disseminate the message of healthiness to the masses especially the students, the district administration has organised the Spark-Career guidance mela by organizing a mini-marathon in the city. He said that the main aim of organizing the event was to disseminate the message of healthy and drug free Punjab. Mr. Sharma said that the youth needs to be sensitized against the menace of drugs for which this mini-marathon would play a key role.

The Deputy Commissioner said that apart from grooming career of the students, the mela also aims at promoting good health of students. He said that the fest, to be held at the precincts of the Guru Gobind Stadium on December 19th and 20th, would also ensure holistic development of the overall personality of the students, for which sporting, cultural and other events by the students have been carefully amalgamated in the program of this fest. Mr. Sharma said that administration has already made elaborate arrangements to ensure that students do not face any sort of problem.Prominent amongst other present on the occasion included Additional Deputy Commissioner Mr. Jasbir Singh, Sub Divisional Magistrate Mr. Vineet Kumar, Tehsildar Mr. Tapan Bhanot, District Guidance Counselor Mr. Surjit Lal, Lieutenant Colonel (Retd) Manmohan Singh, District Sports Officer Mr. Gurpreet Singh, District Youth Services Officer Mr. Jaspal Singh Sahota, District Coaches Mr. Umesh Sharma, Mr. Harjinder Singh and others.
