The Punjab Government has decided to appoint Mr. Sumedh Singh Saini, an IPS officer of 1982 batch, as Director General of Police, Punjab in place of Mr. Anil Kaushik, IPS to curb the crime and to check the menace of illegal narcotic trade in the border state
Mr. Saini, an honest, dedicated, disciplined and devoted officer, who has proved his mettle as SSP of six districts of Bathinda, Hoshiarpur, Ludhiana twice and was specially chosen for SSP Union Territory Chandigarh.
It may be mentioned that Mr. Sukhbir Singh Badal, Deputy Chief Minister, had taken a vow at Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib to launch a concerted drive against drug paddling in the state and Mr. Sumedh Singh Saini would be instrumental in this momentous task.
