In a bid to curb the menace of drug addiction among the youth and to create awareness in people about the ill effects of drugs, a massive awareness program is being launched across Kashmir division soon.This was revealed by Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Baseer Ahmad Khan during a meeting convened to review the arrangements for the forthcoming workshop on drug de-addiction and child rights.The meeting was attended by Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar,  While Deputy Commissioner, Baramulla participated through Video  Conferencing besides Additional Commissioner, Kashmir, Revenue Attorney Kashmir, Principal GMC, Srinagar, Head of Department Psychiatry, GMC Srinagar and officers of School Education, Social Welfare department and other concerned officers.The representatives from NGOs including Chotay Taray Foundation and Sunrise in Kashmir also attended the meeting.The meeting discussed the increasing drug abuse in the valley and the measures to be taken to tackle this menace to save the younger population.The Div Com directed the concerned departments to launch a massive awareness program in the Valley, starting with Srinagar and Baramulla districts.He directed Education and Social Welfare Departments, NGOs and others to work in coordination and chalk out a comprehensive plan to make this awareness program a huge success. He directed the Deputy Commissioners to monitor the programs in their respective districts.With regards to the drug de-addiction centers, Div Com was informed that all the details are kept confidential in these centers and proper counselling as well as medication is provided to the inmates.Div Com also directed for the screening of documentaries on the subject during the awareness camps and workshops.He directed the district administrations and police to keep strict vigil on medical shops running their business in the surroundings of schools and colleges.
