Just a month after the erstwhile Governor Satya Pal Malik announced 24 hours power supply in Kashmir during winters, the government has utterly failed to fulfill the promises as the unscheduled power cuts here have started irking people across Kashmir. The former Jammu and Kashmir Governor, Satya Pal Malik on September 18, 2019, announced that J&K will get 24 hour power supply this winter. He made the announcement while addressing a gathering on the eve of inauguration of series of power projects at Rajbhawan. However, as the winter is approaching in Kashmir, the Power Development Department (PDD) has failed to adhere to the schedule with people accusing the department of ignoring their plights and causing huge inconvenience to the children as exams for class 10 and 12 have already begun.Javaid Ahmad, one of the local residents from Old city Srinagar, told the wire service—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), that the erstwhile Governor too has made fake promises with the people of Kashmir as the unscheduled power cuts from past two days have put a question mark over the claims of the government. He added that there seems no sigh of relief from the unscheduled power cuts this winter too as the people are being forced to reel under darkness for hours together and that too according to the will of the concerned authorities.“The government is although making tall claims that previous regimes in the erstwhile Jammu and Kashmir State have failed to come up to the expectations of people but, on ground, the present dispensation too has failed to address the issues confronting the people of Kashmir in terms of Sadak, Bijli and Pani,” he said, adding that the government must fulfill the promises done with the people so that they could heave a sigh of relief.Kaisar Ahmad, a local resident from Habba Kadal, told KNO that from last two days in particular, the electricity remain off for hours together since morning. “The electricity remained off from morning to 4 PM in the evening on Sunday and similar situation was witnessed on the second consecutive day,” he said, adding that such a situation has left the people across Srinagar to lurch at large. Meanwhile, they appealed the government to ensure adequate electricity to the people in this winter. (KNO)
