Advisor to Governor, K Vijay Kumar chaired 15th meeting of Standing Committee of State Board for Wildlife, here today.The meeting was attended by Principal Secretary Tourism/Industries Naveen Choudhary, Commissioner Secretary Forests Manoj Kumar Dwivedi, IGP Crime Manish Sinha, Secretary Revenue Abdul Majid Bhat, PCCF J&K Mohit Ghera, Chief Wildlife Warden Suresh Gupta, Regional Wildlife Wardens, other members, officers of Forest & Wildlife and other concerned departments.During the meeting, important proposals were placed before the Standing Committee for discussion and consideration. Chief Wildlife Warden J&K made a detailed presentation on the proposals along with other necessary details.The proposals presented before the Standing Committee includes proposal for declaring Zanskar a Wildlife Sanctuary comprising an area of 2287 Sq Kms in Kargil District, revision of boundary description of Changthang Cold Desert Wildlife Sanctuary, Revisiting decision regarding boundaries of Wangath Conservation Reserve, proposal for declaring Suru Valley a Wildlife Sanctuary comprising an area of 3031 Sq Kms in Kargil District, Execution of proposed drainage channel across Hokersar Wetland Reserve along age old alignment under Flood Mitigation Management Programme Phase II, Clearance of Ujh multipurpose Project HEP, proposal for declaring Bani Wildlife Sanctuary in Kathua District, Proposal for diversion of 33.60 Ha land from Changthang Cold Desert Wildlife Sanctuary for construction of road Dungti Hena and few others.After thorough discussions on the proposals placed before the Committee and keeping in mind the importance of the projects, the Standing Committee approved the proposals as per the terms and conditions laid down by the wildlife department which are now to be forwarded to National Wildlife Board for consideration and approval. In some cases, the Wildlife Department was asked to Constitute Special Committees to visit the locations of proposed projects and file reports at the earliest.The participants in the meeting also gave suggestions and stressed that Wildlife should not be disturbed at any cost while executing the projects and strict monitoring be ensured by the user agencies and the Wildlife Department.Addressing the participants, the Advisor said that Wildlife Department should ensure that the conditions laid down in the proposals are taken care of strictly and there is no harm caused to the Wildlife by any developmental activity.
