The 73rd Independence Day was celebrated with great zeal in Reasi District here at General Zorawar Singh Sports Stadium.The National Flag was unfurled by Deputy Commissioner Indu Kanwal Chib while the General Salute was received by SSP Reasi, Rashmi Wazir. Entire parade was held under the command of Dy. SP Wasim Mehmood.In her address, the Deputy Commissioner congratulated the people of the district on the Independence Day and appreciated the communal harmony and unity in diversity displayed by them.The DC highlighted various development programmes of the government. Speaking on Digital India initiative, she said that a number of Common Service Centres, CSCs have been set up for facilitating the people and also highlighted the complete digitization of MGNREGA. The DC also informed that two villages are proposed to be made completely computerized.The DC also spoke on the importance of road connectivity and informed that 6 new roads have been sanctioned under PMGSY in addition to proposal of two new roads under other schemes.Speaking on education sector, the DC congratulated the people on opening of two new Government Degree Colleges in the district. She also spoke on the number of newly constructed schools and a Gujjar Bakerwal Hostel in the district.

Terming the year 2018-19 as a landmark year in the district with respect to Panchayati Raj Initiative, the DC said that Panchayats are now equipped with greater powers and funds. She also appreciated Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Mandhan Yojana.The ambitious Jal Shakti Abhiyan, under which 12000 percolation pits have been dug in the district in the first phase, also found a mention in the DC’s address. The DC informed that traditional sources of water like bowlis, ponds and wells are to be renovated under convergence of IWMP and MGNREGA, two different schemes of the union government. Similarly, the DC also praised the other ambitious initiative of the Government, Back to Village and said that it has been instrumental in the facilitating government’s reach into remotest of villages.The Deputy Commissioner urged every citizen to make a resolution to follow traffic rules and fight drug menace. She urged people to pledge to maintain communal harmony and not spread hoaxes on social media.Before closing her speech, the DC also asked every citizen to adopt 1 Kaam Desh Ke Naam- 1 initiative for the nation’s sake, and contribute to the nation’s development voluntarily whereas she herself chose water conservation.A total of 29 squads including Jammu Kashmir Police, JK Home Guards, JK Armed Police, National Cadet Corps and 7 cultural items were also presented by school students.Departmental tableaus were also presented by District Health Society, Horticulture Department, Election Department, Rural Development Department and Labour Department through the medium of which governmental initiatives and schemes were promoted.
