DC Calls Upon Health Department To Eliminate Maternal Deaths From Jalandhar

The deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma today asked the health and family welfare department to eliminate the maternal deaths menace from the district.Chairing a meeting to review the working of Health Department here today, the Deputy Commissioner said that all out efforts must be made make sure that no maternal death  happen in the district.Mr Sharma said that three maternal deaths in this month are serious matter and needed to be examined what reasons led to their deaths.He said that every  effort must be made to make the people especially pregnant women aware of nutritional food items, health eating practices, yoga,  and others so that there must not be high risk  cases.Mr. Sharma further told the health department to also wipe out home deliveries from the district.He said that this would was the need of the hour for saving several valuable  lives.The Deputy Commissioner said that in this year till May,  35 Home deliveries had taken place in the district.The Deputy Commissioner said that High Risk areas must be  identified in the district and strenuous efforts must be made to educate the people in these areas. He said that special awareness camps must be organized in these areas to  ensure that people were made aware of the merits of the institutional deliveries.Further, he also asked the department to start a major drive for checking the spread of Vector  Borne Diseases including dengue and others in the district.Prominent amongst present on the occasion included Medical Superintendent Dr. KS Bawa, District Immunization  Officer Mr Tarsem Singh, District. family and Welfare Officer Dr Surinder Kumar, Deputy Medical Commissioner Dr Harpreet Kaur Maan, Dr Satish Kumar and others.
