The Deputy commissioner Girish Dayalan has directed the district authorities to prepare their own action plan to eradicate the menace of drugs. He said that the fight against drugs is the utmost priority of the Punjab Government. Therefore, a joint action plan of all the departments should be prepared according to which the functions like Enforcement, De-Addiction and Prevention should be divided among them.Mr. Dyalan also said that at Sub Divisional level, SDMs should get going on this action plan, whereas at the village level, a committee headed by the Sarpanchs should wage a war against drugs. He said that Drug Monitoring Committees will be set up at the city level for this purpose. He further said that though the enforcement function is related to the police but the SDM should also make lists of drug suppliers category wise.
Deputy Commissioner also emphasized identifying such places in the district, where drugs are being sold. Detailing more, he said that the Health Department would identify the drug-free areas. He asked the Health Department officials to prepare lists of drug addicts.During the meeting, SDM Dera Bassi Pooja Syal suggested that women's participation in the fight against drugs also needs to be ensured, While SDM Mohali Jagdeep Sehgal said that the beginning of the war against drugs should be made at the lower level because usually drug addiction starts from tobacco.Meanwhile, Mr. Dyalan said that a state-level function will be organized on 21st June on World Yoga Day under Mission Tandarust Punjab. He appealed to everyone to participate in this program which will be organized at Sports Stadium Sector 78.
