Tightening the noose around the illegal auto rickshaws plying within the city, the Transport and Police department along with Municipal Corporation Jalandhar (MCJ) today impounded 40 auto rickshaws flouting norms in the city. In a joint operation the teams of Transport and Police Department along with that of the civic body led by Secretary Regional Transport Authority Dr. Nayan Jassal, Assistant Commissioner of Police Mr. Vaibhav Sehgal and Superintendent MC Mr. Mandeep Singh held special checking of the auto rickshaws at the Bhagwan Valmiki (Jyoti) Chowk, Dr. BR Ambedkar (Nakodar) Chowk, Sri Ram (Company Bagh) Chowk and others. During the inspection the offices minutely conducted the checking of the auto rickshaws moving in the city and checked their documents. The team, challaned and impounded 40 vehicles for violation of traffic norms while operating in the city.The challaned and impounded vehicles included those without permit, without the relevant documents, without driving license, those plying in area outside permissible to them and others. Meanwhile, Dr. Jassal and Mr. Sehgal said that this drive would continue in coming days also and anyone found violating the norms would not be spared at any cost. They also said that severest of severe action would be taken to stop the violation of traffic rules on one hand and the streamlining the movement of traffic in the city on the other.
