All election preparations done; District Electoral Officer apprises CEO through video conference

3128 polling personnel for election process, 20 percent reserve personnel deployed

District Electoral Officer-cum-Deputy Commissioner Fazilka Mr. Manpreet Singh Chhatwal today apprised Chief Electoral Officer, Punjab Dr. S. Karuna Raju that all preparations for the fair and peaceful election process in the district, have been done.During the review of election preparedness through video conferencing, Mr. Chhatwal informed that total 3128 polling personnel would be deployed in district and including 20 percent reserve staff total 3754 employees would be available with the district administration for the smooth conduct of election process.He said that 782 each Ballet Units, Control Units and VVPAT machines have been provided for total 782 polling stations in the district, while 20 percent each Ballet and control units and 30 percent VVPAT machines will be kept reserved. He said that after first randomization, required EVMs and VVPAT machines have delivered to the SDM-cum-Assistant Returning Officers, which have been placed in strong rooms in assembly constituency under adequate security. He said that all arrangements for the second randomization and commission of the EVMs have been done.He categorically mentioned that complying with the ECI guidelines; one all women and one all persons with disabilities (PwD) managed polling station would be set up in each assembly constituency of the district, thus total 8 polling station will be special polling station, where only women and PwD personnel will manage all process.
He said that at every booth assured minimum facilities such as potable water, electricity, toilets, medical kit, ramps, fans, adequate furniture, help desk, minimum 4 volunteers of NSS/Scouts/NCC up to the age of 18 to assist PwD and senior citizen, queue management, transport facilities for PwD and infirm voters, crèche for children with one trained attendant, provision of food for polling staff & volunteers and display of voter facilitation posters would be provided.Deputy Commissioner further apprised that through SDM-cum-Assistant Returning Officers, marking of 4207 PwD voters have been done besides identification of duplicate votes. He said that the campaign to educate the voters especially youngsters under SVEEP activities is going in full swing and efforts to increase voter registration and voter turnout are on war footing as school/college students are being sensitized through different mode of communication and various platforms of social media.Likewise, Senior Superintendent of Police Mr. Deepak Hilori informed the CEO that 95 percent weapons have been deposited in that district and further action is being taken to deposit remaining weapons. He said that the police is keeping eagle eye on anti-social elements and to shun the flow of illegal drugs and other commodities, 20 checkpoints have been set up at the border and in internal parts of the district.
