District administration organises specialised training for election staff to streamline nomination and scrutiny process of candidates

With the nominations for the Lok Sabha polls all set to begin from April 22, the district administration today organised a specialised training for the staff to be deployed for the duty during the nominations to be filed by the various political parties.Presiding over the training here at the district administrative complex, the Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Mr Varinder Kumar Sharma underscored the need for a flawless mechanism to complete the entire process. He said that the nominations in district would start with the issuance of notification ‪on April 22, 2019 (‬Monday) the process of nominations would begin in the district. Mr Sharma said that last date for filing nominations was ‪April 29‬ during which the candidates could file their nominations from 11 am to 3 pm.The Deputy Commissioner said that scrutiny of the papers would be held ‪on April‬ 30 and last date for withdrawal ‪was May 2. He said that polling in Jalandhar would be held on May 19‬ and counting of votes would be held ‪on May 23‬. Mr Sharma asked all the staff members to perform their duty diligently for ensuring free, fair and transparent polls in the district.

The Deputy Commissioner said that duties have been assigned to officials regarding checking of nominations in all respects, preparing of checklist after preliminary examination of nomination file, giving receipt of nominations to candidate, preparing of dummy ballot papers and others. He said that the nominations would be received only in his court adding that all the arrangements including infrastructure upgradation for receiving the nominations would be completed by end of this week. Mr Sharma said that in his absence the nominations would be received by Sub Divisional Magistrate Jalandhar II Mr Paramveer Singh.The Deputy Commissioner further said that the entire process of nominations would be videographed to ensure complete transparency. He said that all the officers must perform their duty zealously to ensure that democracy was strengthened at the grass root level. Mr Sharma said that any sort of callousness in performing the duty was both unwarranted and undesirable adding that stern action would be taken against any sort of callousness in duty.On the occasion Sub Divisional Magistrate Mr Paramveer Singh, Tehsildar Elections Mr Manjit Singh and others were also present.
