In a late night raid in Model Town area of Chhehrta, Amritsar, the Food Safety Team seized nearly one lakh apparently counterfeit boxes of desi ghee in varying sizes of 1kg, 500 gms and 200 gms bearing the label as Dairy Shine desi ghee along with huge quantity of adulterants for preparing spurious desi ghee, informed Mr. KS Pannu , Commissioner Food Safety Punjab.Giving details, the Commissioner informed that 5000 kg of palm oil, 200 litres of chemical to boost the BR (butyro refractometer) value of ghee and 1650 kg of adulterated butter were found on the spot. Samples of all the contents have been taken and sent to State Lab for analysis. The raid was conducted with the support of local police and the premise has been sealed. Police has registered an FIR against the culprit Kulbir singh s/o Yuvraj singh under section 272,273 and 420 of IPC.As a follow up action the actual premises of Dairy Shine desi ghee, Angad Milk Foods Pvt Ltd, at Panjwad in district Taran Tarn was inspected to ascertain the connivance of the manufacturer with the adulterator in Amritsar. Samples of the stock have been taken and sent to Lab to verify the quality of the ghee. Entire quantity of Desi Ghee has been seized & kept in the premises of manufacturing unit itself against a Surety Bond duly signed by the Owner of the firm with the strict directions not to tamper with seized material in any manner whatsoever. However, the same will be dealt with after the receipt of the analysis report of the State Food Laboratory Kharar, informed Pannu.
