PHE employees protest against Army’s alleged highhandedness

The employees of Public Health Engineering (PHE) department on Tuesday staged a protest in Sumbal area of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district against what they termed as alleged Army’s highhandedness for ‘beating two employees during duty hours in the district’.Sources told KNO that the employees who were allegedly beaten by Army sustained injuries and were shifted to JVC Srinagar hospital, from where they were discharged after day-long treatment.Scores of PHE employees assembled in the premises of SDM office Sumbal today and protested against the Army action and demanded stringent action against those involved in the act.Protesters told KNO that “On Sunday night, Army personnel from 13 RR entered into the premises of water supply scheme Hajin. They beat two on-duty employees namely Ashiq Husain Wani and Firdous Ahmad without any reason.”Meanwhile, a group of employees under the banner of the All PHE Daily Wage Employees Association, Kashmir, reached their head office in Sopore and registered their protest before senior officers.They also blocked the water supply of sub-division Hajin as mark of protest.They demanded action against the ‘erring soldiers’ and threatened to go on indefinite strike in case no action is initiated against the guilty.(KNO)
