Thousands attend funeral prayers of TuM militant in Sopore

Braving restrictions and heavy rains, thousands of people today attended funeral prayers of a local Tehreek-ul-Mujahideen militant who was killed in a brief gun-battle with government forces in Handwara on Thursday night.Reports reaching news gathering agency Global News Service that thousands of people from Chinkipora, Khushal Matoo, Batpora, Baba Yusuf, Doabgah, Muslim Peer and adjoining villages converged at Arampora early morning today to attend funeral of TeM militant Naseer Ahmad Teli, who was killed in an encounter with government forces in Handwara area of Kupwara on Thursday night.The mourners carried Teli’s in a procession to Chinkipora, where his Namaz-e-Jinaza (funeral prayers) were offered. He was later buried at the martyrs graveyard amidst vociferous pro-freedom and anti-India slogans, reports said.Earlier, scores of youth clashed with the government forces in Chinkipora. The government forces and fired pellets after failing to disperse the angry stone pelters with tear smoke shells, reports said.Elsewhere, a complete shutdown was observed in the town to mourn Teli’s killing. Authorities had imposed restrictions and snapped internet to prevent people from holding protest against the militant’s killing.Meanwhile, minor clashes amidst a complete shutdown have also been received from several parts of Budgam district, where two Lashkar militants were killed in a fierce gunfight with government forces.Minor clashes were reported from Aripanthan against the killing of local militant Mukhtar Ahmad Bhat and his associate Mohammad Amin Mir of Drangbal Pampore in an encounter in Zagoo village on Thursday morning.
