'LaQshya' to be launched in medical colleges, district hospitals and FRUs

A State level orientation workshop on 'LaQshya'- the National Labour Room Quality Improvement imitative was organised here today.Principal  Secretary, Health R.D. Dhiman after inaugurating the workshop said that the state government has decided to launch this programme in all the medical  colleges, district hospitals and first referral units (FRUs) of the state.He said the LaQshya was an initiative to improve the quality of care in labour  rooms and maternity operation theatres (OTs) during the delivery and immediately after delivery which would go a long way in reducing precious  maternal and new born deaths. It also aims to certify the labour rooms and maternity OTs on quality standards which would be accessed by the state  and national teams on quality.R.D Dhiman said that Government of India would support the state in setting up obstetric ICUs and High Dependency  Units (HDUs), up-gradation of labour rooms, training, mentoring and various other activities associated with the programme. LaQshya intends to ensure  every mother and her new born are cared for most appropriately and also that such care was respectful to the woman and her family.

He released a report on Maternal Mortality Radio (MMR) on this occasion which has estimated MMR of the state for the first time based on recognized  scientific methodology. The report has estimated MMR of 77 which is much below the national average of 137 per lakh live births. An operational and  technical guidelines on prevention and management of Pneumonia among children was also released which would help in reducing under five child  deaths.Mission Director National Health Mission Manmohan Sharma detailed about the strategy to launch LaQshya in the state.Director Health  Services Dr. Baldev Thakur, Dr. Ashutosh Sarwa and Dr. Manju Chhugani, Members of the team of the Union Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Dr.  Rashmi Wadhwa from White Ribbon Alliance, NHSRC New Delhi, senior officers of the health department, Chief Medical Officers and specialist doctors  attended the workshop.
